Dr Adam P. Spring PhD is the author of 'A History of Laser Scanning'

My work on the history of laser scanning was born out of curiosity in 2006. It started as a short term project. The articles published in Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing (PE & RS), however, took over a decade to write. They became a beginning, as opposed to an end.

Spring PhD with The Talbert Abrams Award 2021 “I would like to thank the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing for the Talbert Abrams Award and First Honorable Mention in 2021. I would also like to dedicate both awards to the many brilliant people who helped create an industry from an emerging discipline. My articles in Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing were born out of curiosity and finished via hard work over a long period of time. I was determined to write something that aids in future developments - that truly helps to better understand a history of laser scanning and its material culture. Each article was worth the long road taken. I would like to end by giving an added mention of thanks to my wife for her support and encouragement along the way.”
